Qualis Health brings more than 30 years of experience serving populations with complex needs. Here is a brief list of our contributions toward improving healthcare:

2000 to present

  • 2008: Awarded a new three-year contract to continue as the QIO for Idaho and Washington, and was also awarded a national grant from the Commonwealth Fund to lead a demonstration project helping primary care safety net practices become high-performing patient-centered medical homes.
  • 2007: Granted Achievement Level recognition from the Washington State Quality Award; won hospital utilization review services contracts for South Carolina Medicaid and Nebraska Medicaid; awarded new contract with Washington State Department of Labor & Industries for utilization review services.
  • 2006: Completed implementation of CarePlanner software for care management products, including the launch of Web-based review; awarded care management contract by the Washington State Health Insurance Pool.
  • 2005: Acquired Outlook Associates, LLC; earned renewal of four Medicare contracts; awarded new contract with Idaho Medicaid; provided key leadership and support to Alaska, Idaho, and Washington hospitals participating in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's 100,000 Lives Campaign.
  • 2004: Surgical Infection Prevention Collaborative Northwest, led by Qualis Health, garners national news coverage.
  • 2003: Qualis Health leads successful Surgical Infection Prevention Collaborative, which received the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Common Knowledge "Star QIOSC" award; Qualis Health awarded four new Medicare contracts.
  • 2002: PRO-West re-named Qualis Health and adopts new mission statement to reflect greater emphasis on healthcare quality improvement; Washington Diabetes Collaborative received Recognizing Excellence Award for Best Collaboration in Disease Management from the Disease Management Association of America.
  • 2001: PRO-West wins two-year contract by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries for workers' compensation utilization review services.
  • 2000: Jonathan Sugarman, MD, MPH, appointed as president and chief executive officer; accredited by URAC in Independent/External Review.

1990 - 2000

  • 1999: Earned renewal of Medicare contracts for Washington, Idaho, and Alaska, and of Medicaid contracts for Idaho and Alaska; launched innovative CarePartner software for utilization/case management; accredited by URAC in Case Management.
  • 1998: Awarded contract for Washington Medicaid external quality review work services.
  • 1997: Licensed by National Committee for Quality Assurance for NCQA HEDIS® Compliance Audits™.
  • 1995: Awarded Wyoming Medicaid contract and established Wyoming office; awarded regional utilization review contract for CHAMPUS in 33 states.
  • 1994: Accredited by Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) in Health Utilization Management.
  • 1993: Changed name to PRO-West; initiated Medicare healthcare quality improvement projects.
  • 1992: Awarded regional utilization review contract for CHAMPUS in 14 states; awarded contract with Washington State Health Care Authority for the Uniform Medical Plan.

1980 - 1990

  • 1989: Awarded peer review contract for Idaho Medicaid; launched case management for private clients.
  • 1988: Awarded peer review contracts for CHAMPUS in Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.
  • 1986: Awarded Medicare contract for Idaho and established Idaho office; John Daise hired as chief executive officer.
  • 1985: Awarded peer review contract for Alaska Medicaid.
  • 1984: PRO/W awarded Medicare peer review organization contracts for Washington and Alaska; established Alaska office; WSPSRO disbanded.

1970 - 1980

  • 1979: Created Professional Review Organization for Washington (PRO/W), a sister corporation; began providing peer review services for private-sector clients.
  • 1975: Awarded peer review contract for Washington Medicaid.
  • 1974: Washington State Professional Standards Review Organization (WSPRO) initially established as forerunner of PRO-West; began peer review for Medicare in Washington.
